ON TODAY’S EPISODE In this episode, Ralph Lauren, Ranching & Regeneration: The Jeanne Carver Story, Part 2, we cover: Resources & Links: Connect with Jeanne: Be sure to subscribe/follow the show so you never miss an episode! ABOUT JEANNE Jeanne lives on her family’s Imperial Stock Ranch (est. 1871) in the western U.S., located in Oregon’s interior high desert. In 1999, in response to a collapsing U.S. wool market and diminished textile infrastructure, she led them out of commodity wool sales and in a new direction. Similar to the farm-to-fork “slow food” movement that reconnects us to food, Jeanne connected a fiber supply chain as close to home as possible and began making finished goods with their wool. Building on her ranch’s heritage and mindful stewardship of land and animals, she connected a growing customer base for textile products to their origin. Building a reputation in the craft, apparel and home markets, brands soon found her traceable wool supply, creating partnerships for a variety of products. When the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) launched in 2016, her Imperial Stock Ranch was the first ranch in the world to be certified. With increasing interest in third-party certified wool, Jeanne launched Shaniko Wool Company in 2018 to scale the supply of RWS certified wool produced in the U.S. And with increasing concerns about the ecosystem and climate impacts of farming and grazing operations, in 2020, Jeanne launched the Shaniko Wool Carbon Initiative, a comprehensive third-party research and measurement project designed to determine the net environmental impact of the ranches in her Farm Group. Jeanne serves on numerous boards related to agriculture and committees within the Textile Exchange community. She is an award-winning agricultural entrepreneur and author. MORE ABOUT LEADERS OF THE WEST PODCAST: Leaders Of The West is a podcast for innovators and change-makers in the ag and western industries. Hosted by Jessie Jarvis, the Founder of Of The West, our mission with Leaders Of The West is to foster a community of pioneers, innovators, and leaders who want to be at the forefront of what’s next. Whether it’s a guest episode where we’re digging into the blueprints behind our favorite industry businesses, discussing the innovation and strategies that have allowed family farming and ranching operations to continue on for another generation, to episodes with honest conversations from entrepreneurs who have risked it all on their dreams, or leaders detailing how to create a company culture so strong that you couldn’t pay your employees to leave. These conversations are meant to encourage the leaders of today and inspire the next generation of trailblazers. In addition to bringing in guests, you’ll also find some solo episodes, where Jessie shares the lessons she’s learned throughout her journey as a rancher, entrepreneur, wife, and mother. Whether you’re a farmer, a rancher, an equine lover, someone headed up the leadership ladder, an ag business owner, a western sports athlete, an entrepreneur, or someone who just loves the western way of life—this is the place for you. You’ll find new episodes every week. Don’t forget to subscribe, so you never miss a show!]]>
