ABOUT
SCHOOLS OF THE WEST

If you’ve been hiring on Of The West lately, you may have noticed things look a little different. Of The West has launched new updates for employers!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve rolled out a round of new platform updates built specifically for employers, and nearly every one of them started as feedback from someone using the platform to hire. That’s exactly how we like it. When employers tell us what would make their hiring process smoother, we listen, build, and share the results. Here’s a look at what’s new on the hiring side of Of The West!
If you have multiple team members on your Hiring Account, billing just got a whole lot easier!
All purchases made by anyone on your team (like posting a new job) will now be charged to one card: the card on file for your account’s Admin user. That means your team members can post jobs without ever needing to enter a card or leave the site.
One quick heads up: if you’re an Admin user, the next purchase you make will be processed as usual, and your card will automatically be saved as the card on file for your account. After that one-time step, you’re all set!
You’ll also see a new “Manage Billing” link inside your account. This takes you to a secure billing portal where you can update your card on file and manage any active subscriptions, like your Directory listing or Unlimited+ membership. Note: job posting purchases won’t appear there just yet, but a full purchase history page is coming soon!
As you’re working through applicants for your open roles and adjusting their stage, those changes will now auto-update, versus you needing to manually save each of those stage changes. In coming updates, you’ll also be able to re-sort applicants by Name, Apply Date, Stage, Question Score, and Rating!
Once you’ve marked a candidate as “Rejected,” you’ll receive a pop-up that asks if you want to confirm that change. If things change in your hiring process, you can readjust that individual’s stage from “Rejected” to a different status.
After you make the initial change to “Rejected,” you will see a button that says “Send Rejection Email” alongside that Current Stage. This is a generic rejection email that comes from Of The West, and not from you as the Hiring Manager.
We HIGHLY encourage you to send rejection emails to all applicants whom you will not be hiring, as it respectfully lets them know where they stand in the process.
The biggest complaint we hear from job seekers about the hiring process is not hearing back from employers (regardless of what the decision was). We aim to make a great experience for employers and job seekers alike, and that’s part of why we’ve worked to make this rejection process as simple as possible for you as an employer!
You might have noticed that you’re receiving an email every time a new applicant has applied for your open role. Not only can you now choose whether you receive these or not (Opt-In/Opt-Out), but you can also choose who those “you’ve received an applicant” emails are sent to. Please note, you can only choose users who have been added to your Hiring Account!
To make these changes to each job, please visit “Edit Listing” and scroll until you see New Application Email Notifications :

Based on feedback from employers, we’ve disabled the feature that allowed job seekers to apply with the “resume” they built inside Of The West’s Resume Database. For the majority of you, these resumes were cumbersome to deal with, since they can’t be exported as a traditional PDF or Docx file. From now on, all applicants will submit downloadable formats (PDF’s, Docx, etc), simplifying the document management process on your end!
P.S. If you want applicants to submit documents in a specific format (example: PDF), please include that in your application instructions.
You may notice we’ve readjusted the names of a job’s status for the sake of clarity. Those are:
1. Open – An active role that is currently being hired for
2. Paused – A role you’ve paused receiving new submissions for
3. Filled – A role you’ve filled and are no longer hiring for
4. Cancelled – A change has happened internally, and the role is no longer viable.
If you have any feedback on your experience here at Of The West, please let us know! We want to continue to provide you with the best place to hire great candidates, and we take that feedback to heart!
