ABOUT
SCHOOLS OF THE WEST
Summer is the perfect time to recharge and find inspiration for your next big venture – whatever that may be! For entrepreneurs in the ag + western industry, there’s no better way to spark new ideas and get motivated to follow your dreams than by listening to Leaders Of The West. Each episode features conversations with trailblazing innovators, thought leaders, and business pioneers who are shaping the future of our industry. These podcasts are your gateway to fresh perspectives and practical advice.
Below, we’ve got five of our favorite episodes with entrepreneurs who have shaken up the industry with their out-of-the-box thinking and immense grit that has led them to the creation of their successful businesses! Enjoy these episodes wherever you’re headed this summer.
Mary and her husband, Brian, spent years in Silicon Valley in corporate careers before they decided they needed a change, so they bought a ranch in rural California and became cattle ranchers alongside their four daughters! 10 years later, they have a successful cattle ranch, along with M5 Ranch School, Five Marys Burger House, M5 Entrepreneurs Academy, Five Marys Meat Co., two cookbooks, and other businesses that support their ranch and local community.
If you’re an entrepreneur who is in the trenches, you will thoroughly enjoy this episode! Mary helps you shift your mindset to become a solution-oriented person, because in entrepreneurship, there will be roadblocks, and you’ve got to persevere and find solutions to be successful!
You know her, you love her, and in this episode, Jessie is joined by Lindsay Branquinho – wife, mother, business owner, and podcast host. Jessie and Lindsay dive into a topic that doesn’t come easy to most and that’s confidence. A trait that is important for entrepreneurs!
You’ll love this episode because Lindsay gets real about how her confidence is something she has to work at every single day, but there are strategies she uses to remind herself to lean into who she is and to be brave, because as she says, “Fortune Favours the Brave.”
In this episode, Jessie sits down with Trey Wasserburger, owner of TD Angus, a registered seed stock operation in North Platte, Nebraska that markets 350+ Angus bulls annually. On top of TD Angus, Trey also operates a 30k capacity feedlot, and is co-owner of Sustainable Beef LLC, the producer-owned packing plant that is in construction now and will be in operation in 2025 and was invested in by Walmart.
You will enjoy listening to this episode because Trey and his wife are prime examples for building the life and business you want! But that doesn’t come without getting uncomfortable, something Trey has had to get really comfortable doing.
Bex Sunglasses has become a major player in the western retail space and in this episode, Jessie is joined by it’s founder, Jason Adams!
No matter where you are in your entrepreneurial journey, this episode will provide you with takeaways that will give you so much insight! Jason gives you the key characteristics it takes to build a business and how valuable it is to find a niche audience.
You’ll love hearing the story that before starting Bex, Jason had no idea about sunglasses and his trip where he engulfed himself in learning about the industry!
In this episode, Jessie is joined by Ranch Water founder, Katie Beal Brown! They chat about taking risks, the fear around those risks, and how personal growth is far more important than any goal achieved.
Katie also shares a story about one of the scariest moments in her business which was during COVID, an unprecedented time for so many, where she had to make a make-or-break decision and how that outcome completely changed Ranch Water! This episode will have you asking yourself, “Why the hell haven’t I done it yet?”
